Savvy Shopping Tips!

Join in on the thrill of chasing a good deal.

Hi, I’m Alina Ann! …annnnd I’m the savviest shopper you’ll ever meet.

Truly, I don’t think I’ve ever purchased anything at full-price. Ever. I’m a sucker for a good deal and thrive off of finding something super cute (on sale!). It's more rewarding when someone gives you a compliment on your outfit and you can say, "thanks! it was under $20!"

Here are some of my tips for keeping more money in your pocket while shopping for all of the pretty clothes!

Set a Budget

When you’re looking for a certain piece of clothing, set a budget for yourself before jumping into your search! This way, you can filter out items at higher price points that you might otherwise fall in love with - that's right, don't even look at them. It's time to stick to purchasing things that you won’t feel guilty about buying later (because we've all been there). So long, buyers remorse!

Don’t Impulse Buy

Online shopping is a savvy shopper’s best friend. No impulse buying necessary! 9 times out of 10, the item you’re looking at on your phone or computer will be there tomorrow. So if you’re still thinking about the piece you saw a day or two after you looked at it and still really, really want it, then you can consider buying it! It's probably worth the splurge at that point.

Secondhand Search

Before clicking “purchase” on a piece of clothing, I always go and search on a secondhand clothing website or app first to see if the same item, or a similar item, is out there. At least 50% of the time, I find the same exact item in my size for half the price! Poshmark, thredUP and Refashioner are some amazing sources to find secondhand clothing - like new! You can even filter out items that are still “new-with-tags” if you want to!

Hand Me Downs / Clothing Trade

Next time you find yourself doing a big closet clean out, invite some of your friends over for a clothing exchange party! Chances are, you and your friends have a similar fashion taste anyways. I did this all of the time growing up and it was a great way to get new clothes for free. You can easily trade your old clothes for something new (to you) and have fun while doing it! Any clothes that don't get passed along, sell on Poshmark for some extra cash or donate them to those in need.

Save Now, Buy Later

If you take one thing from this blog, it should be this: It’s ALWAYS going to go on sale! As difficult as waiting may be, I promise that you don’t need that dress, those shoes, or the earrings at this very moment. Of course, there are going to be special occasions that pop up where you need to shop on a timeline, but with every day casual shopping, seasons move through very quickly, and sales happen ALL the time. Save the item now, and buy it later when it's on sale.
